I photographed the wedding of Sam and Kira in 2016.
If I love one thing more than weddings, it’s a baby. So….. When Kira turned up for afternoon tea one day, 8 weeks pregnant, and mentioned she wanted a maternity shoot, I convinced her to “trust me” with doing a series of in home maternity photos each month, documenting the everyday moments.
“It’s going to be amazing, “ I persuaded her, “Imagine a series of you doing ordinary things in your house like brushing your teeth, or hanging out the washing, and all the while, that belly just keeps getting bigger and bigger….” The look on her face!! But she humoured me, and this unfolded. A story of pregnancy.
Here are some of my favourites. I’m not that easy to tears, but I when I looked over the full collection from start to finish, I felt myself welling up with… excitement and unexplained emotion that makes your heart thump a bit heavier than normal. It was a really beautiful journey to be on the sidelines for.
I cant pick a single favourite image. But one that resonates with me the most is the one of Kira staring blankly into her wardrobe. I did that for at least 30 solid weeks when I was pregnant. I wish I did that moment more justice technically. I don’t want to ruin any of the others. Take a look. I would love to know if you have a favourite.
